CRGO Electrical Steel for transformer cores
Cold-rolled grain-oriented (CRGO) electrical steel — 0.20 to 0.30 mm, low core loss — sourced mill-direct for distribution and power transformer cores, with full test documentation on every coil.
CRGO Electrical Steel
Core loss, gauge by gauge.
The thinner the gauge and the lower the core loss, the more efficient — and cooler — the transformer over its whole service life. Here's the CRGO range we hold.
| Thickness | Core loss · W/kg (1.7 T, 50 Hz) | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| 0.20 mmgrain oriented | 0.65 – 0.80 | Low-loss, energy-efficient transformer cores |
| 0.23 mmgrain oriented | 0.75 – 1.20 | Power transformer cores |
| 0.27 mmgrain oriented | 0.90 – 1.30 | Distribution transformer cores |
| 0.30 mmgrain oriented | 0.95 – 1.30 | General-purpose transformer cores |
Supplied as coils, slit to width, or cut to lamination size. Tell us your target core-loss grade, lamination width and quantity and we'll confirm availability — every coil ships with its mill test certificate.
Why core loss matters
A spec you live with for decades.
CRGO — cold-rolled grain-oriented electrical steel — has its grain structure aligned to the rolling direction, giving very low loss and high permeability where the magnetic flux runs along the lamination. That is exactly the condition inside a transformer core, which is why CRGO is the standard material for distribution and power transformers.
The deciding number is core loss — the energy dissipated every cycle as the steel is magnetised and demagnetised, measured in watts per kilogram. A lower figure means a cooler, more efficient transformer and lower running cost across a service life measured in decades. It is the spec a transformer designer chooses on — so we publish it up front rather than make you ask.
Every coil is supplied mill-direct with full test documentation. Send your application, target core-loss grade and lamination size, and we'll confirm pricing and availability — usually within the hour on WhatsApp.
